Truck Accident Blind Spots: Where They Are and How to Avoid Them

Commercial trucks such as 18-wheelers, semis, and tractor-trailers are massive in both size and weight. Due to their enormous girth, truckers have a hard time seeing all the other cars surrounding them due to their wide blind spots. Unfortunately, if a trucker isn’t aware that another motorist is driving near a truck’s blind post, a truck accident may occur.

The following are the four large blind spots found on large trucks:

  1. In front of the truck
  2. Behind the truck
  3. Left side of the truck
  4. Right side of the truck

So whenever you are near trucks, take precaution to avoid getting involved in a collision. While it can be difficult to avoid blind spots completely, there are several ways to remain on the safe side.

If you believe that the trucker doesn’t see you, avoid lingering in blind spots and move toward visibility. Always pass trucks on the left side and never on the right. If you wish to switch lanes in front of a truck, provide an ample amount of space between you and truck. When following a truck, allow extra space for sudden stops. Lastly, have patience around these large vehicles.
